The Armenia Tipping Guide & Calculator helps visitors and locals work out an appropriate tip across the situations where it matters — restaurants, cafés, spas, taxis and hotels — using Armenia’s modest tipping norms. Tipping (թեյավճար) is appreciated but never aggressive.
How it works
The tool applies the right rule for each service rather than a single flat percentage:
- Restaurants and cafés: about 10% in Yerevan sit-down venues (10–12% upscale, 5–10% casual). If a
service charge (
սպասարկում) is already on the bill, an extra tip is optional. - Taxis: round the fare up to a convenient amount rather than tipping a percentage.
- Hotels: small flat amounts — roughly ֏500 per bag for the porter and ֏500 per night for housekeeping.
- Spa / salon: around 10%.
For percentage services the tip is the midpoint of the customary range, and the tool also splits the total per person:
tip = bill * (lowPct + highPct) / 2 / 100
total = bill + tip
Around 10% in Yerevan restaurants, round up taxis, small flat amounts for hotels — and check for an included service charge.
Example
A ֏12,000 dinner for four at a casual restaurant with no service charge suggests a tip of roughly ֏1,080 (about 8–10%), a total near ֏13,080, or about ֏3,270 per person. A taxi fare of ֏1,750 rounds up to ֏1,800.
Notes
Cash reaches staff most directly in Armenia. When a service charge is already on the bill, treat any extra as a bonus, not an obligation. All maths runs locally in your browser.
