This calculator works out weekly gross pay in Atlanta. It uses the effective 7.25 dollar minimum wage (the federal rate, which exceeds Georgia’s), applies federal overtime at 1.5 times pay over 40 hours, and handles the tipped-worker cash wage and tip-credit rules.

How it works

Regular and overtime hours are paid at different rates, split at the 40-hour workweek:

regular hours   = min(hours, 40)
overtime hours  = max(hours − 40, 0)
gross           = regular hours × rate + overtime hours × rate × 1.5

For tipped workers, the cash wage may be as low as 2.13 dollars as long as tips bring the effective rate to at least 7.25. If cash wage plus tips fall short, the employer owes a top-up:

effective = cash wage + tips per hour
top-up    = max(7.25 − effective, 0) × hours

Example and notes

A non-tipped worker at 7.25 dollars doing 45 hours earns 40 hours of regular pay (290.00) plus 5 overtime hours at 10.875 (54.38), for a 344.38 dollar week. A server on the 2.13 cash wage who averages 6.00 in tips per hour reaches 8.13 effective and needs no top-up. Overtime always uses the full 7.25 minimum as its base, so a tipped worker’s cash overtime rate is the 1.5x premium minus the tip credit. Georgia follows federal law on these rules; there is no separate Atlanta city wage.
