Columbus follows Ohio’s state minimum wage of $10.45 per hour, with time-and-a-half required for hours over 40 in a week. This free calculator works out your weekly gross pay — including the tipped-worker cash wage of $5.25 and the tip-credit top-up — so you can check your paycheck.
How it works
Pay splits into regular hours (up to 40) and overtime hours (above 40) at 1.5x:
regular hours = min(hours, 40)
overtime hours = max(hours − 40, 0)
regular pay = regular hours × rate
overtime pay = overtime hours × rate × 1.5
gross = regular pay + overtime pay
For tipped workers, the employer pays a $5.25 cash wage and claims a tip credit, but your tips plus cash wage must reach the full $10.45 minimum. Overtime is computed on the full $10.45 rate (not the cash wage) before applying the credit, as the law requires.
Example
A non-tipped worker at $10.45/hr who works 46 hours:
- Regular:
40 × 10.45 = $418.00 - Overtime:
6 × 10.45 × 1.5 = $94.05 - Gross:
$512.05
Notes
The $10.45 figure is Ohio’s non-tipped minimum for larger employers (annual gross receipts above the state threshold). Very small employers and 14–15-year-olds may use the lower federal $7.25 floor. Always check tips actually bring tipped pay up to the full minimum — if they do not, the employer owes the shortfall.
