What is Dallas's combined sales tax rate?

Dallas charges a combined 8.25% sales tax: 6.25% Texas state, 1% City of Dallas, and 1% for the DART transit authority. 8.25% is the statewide maximum, because Texas caps local add-ons at 2% on top of the 6.25% state rate.

Calculate Dallas sales tax

Dallas levies a combined 8.25% sales tax, which is also the maximum allowed anywhere in Texas. It blends the 6.25% state rate with a 1% City of Dallas rate and a 1% levy for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). This calculator turns any pre-tax price into the tax owed and the final total.

How it works

The combined rate is applied to the taxable amount, and exempt items (such as unprepared groceries or prescription drugs) are zeroed out:

taxable amount = exempt ? 0 : purchase amount
tax            = taxable amount * (rate / 100)
total = purchase amount + tax

The default rate already merges the Texas state, city, and DART shares. Because Texas caps the combined rate at 8.25%, no Dallas address charges more — the field is editable only so you can model a lower special-district rate.

Tips and example

A 100 purchase at 8.25% incurs 8.25 in tax for a 108.25 total. Toggle the exemption on for a 100 grocery purchase and the tax drops to 0, keeping the total at 100. Remember that prepared food and restaurant meals do not qualify for the grocery exemption, so leave the toggle off for a dine-out bill.
