Discord Forum Tag & Hashtag Limit Helper

Stay inside Discord's forum tag rules — count and audit instantly.

Paste your Discord forum post tags or in-text hashtags and this tool counts them against Discord's enforced limits — 5 tags per forum post, 20 tags per channel — flags duplicates and over-long tags, and shows the character cost of each.

How many tags can a Discord forum post have?

A single forum post in a Discord forum channel can have up to 5 tags applied. The forum channel itself can define up to 20 tags total, from which each post picks a maximum of 5. Exceeding 5 on a post is blocked by Discord.

Discord forum tag & hashtag limit helper

Discord does not use Instagram-style hashtags — its real tagging system is forum tags, structured labels on forum posts. The rules are strict: 5 tags per post, 20 tags per channel, and 20 characters per tag. This helper counts your tags against those limits, flags duplicates and over-long names, and shows the character cost of each so nothing gets rejected.

How it works

Paste your tags (one per line, or separated by spaces or commas) and pick the context. For a forum post the cap is 5 tags; for a forum channel the cap is 20 available tags. The tool splits and de-duplicates your list, measures each tag against the 20-character name limit, and reports how many you have versus the limit. Tags are normalised case-insensitively for the duplicate check, the same way Discord treats them.

Tips & notes

  • Forum post = max 5 tags; forum channel = max 20 available tags.
  • Each tag name is capped at 20 characters; this tool flags any that overflow.
  • A leading # is optional and is stripped before counting.
  • Discord has no searchable topic hashtags — forum tags are the structured alternative.
