Estimate your Honolulu parking costs
Parking on Oahu, especially in downtown Honolulu and Waikiki, can be a significant monthly expense. This tool estimates your cost using a median monthly garage permit near $140, metered street rates around $1.50/hr, and an event-rate multiplier for peak Waikiki demand.
How it works
For pay-as-you-go parking, the monthly cost builds from your usage and rate:
monthly = hours/day * days/month * hourly rate * event multiplier
daily = monthly / days
annual = monthly * 12
For a monthly garage permit, the flat rate is your monthly cost, and the tool spreads it across your parking days to show an equivalent daily figure. It then tells you whether a permit or pay-as-you-go is the better deal for your pattern.
Tips and example
Parking 3 hours a day, 22 days a month at $1.50/hr with no event surcharge costs 3 * 22 * 1.50 = $99/mo — cheaper than the $140 median permit. Bump the hourly rate or add a 1.5x Waikiki event multiplier and pay-as-you-go quickly exceeds the permit.
If you park nearly every weekday, a flat monthly permit usually wins; for occasional trips, metered or app-based parking is cheaper.
