Go past 30 hashtags and Instagram refuses to post your caption; pad with duplicates and you waste slots that could be reaching new audiences. This helper counts your hashtags against the real 30-tag limit, flags duplicates, and shows the character cost they add to your caption.
How it works
Instagram enforces a hard limit of 30 hashtags per post or comment, and every hashtag also consumes characters from the caption’s 2,200-character budget. The tool:
- Splits your input on spaces, commas, and new lines.
- Strips a leading
#and ignores empty fragments. - Counts unique valid tags and flags any duplicates.
- Sums the character length of all tags (including the
#) so you see caption cost.
Tips and example
Quality beats quantity: a handful of specific, relevant tags usually out-reaches a wall of 30 broad ones, because Instagram rewards posts that match a focused topic. Avoid repeating a tag to fill slots — duplicates are ignored and look spammy. If the counter shows more than 30, trim the least relevant tags first, and watch the character total so your hashtags plus caption text stay under 2,200.
