How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary in Iowa?

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week, then by 52 weeks. For example, $25 per hour at 40 hours per week is $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 gross per year. This tool does that and then subtracts Iowa state income tax and FICA to show your real take-home pay.

Need to turn an hourly wage into a yearly salary and see what actually lands in your Iowa paycheck? This calculator annualizes your hourly rate, then applies Iowa’s flat 3.8% income tax, the standard deduction, and FICA (Social Security + Medicare) to estimate real take-home pay per year, month, and bi-weekly period.

How it works

First the tool builds gross annual salary from your hourly inputs:

Gross annual = hourly rate × hours per week × 52

Then it computes Iowa state tax on income after the standard deduction and federal FICA:

Iowa tax = (gross − standard deduction) × 3.8% FICA = Social Security (6.2% to wage base) + Medicare (1.45% + 0.9% surtax over $200k) Net = gross − Iowa tax − FICA

Iowa’s 2025 reform replaced graduated brackets with a single 3.8% rate, so the state portion is straightforward. Federal income tax is not modeled here because it depends on your W-4.

Notes and tips

  • Overtime and bonuses are not modeled — enter your base hours for a clean annualized figure.
  • Some Iowa school districts add a surtax (a percentage of your state tax). Add it separately if it applies.
  • The Social Security wage base caps the 6.2% tax, so very high earners see a slightly higher net rate above the cap.
  • To see take-home for a different schedule, divide the annual net by your number of pay periods (26 bi-weekly, 24 semi-monthly, 12 monthly).

Worked example

A worker earns $25/hour at 40 hours/week:

  • Gross annual = $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000
  • Iowa tax = ($52,000 − standard deduction) × 3.8%
  • FICA = $52,000 × 7.65% = $3,978
  • Net is the remainder after Iowa tax and FICA

Note: Estimate only, not tax advice. Federal income tax is not included. Verify rates with the Iowa Department of Revenue (tax.iowa.gov).
