Kansas City follows Missouri’s statewide minimum wage of $12.00 per hour — the state preempts local minimum-wage rules, so the city rate equals the state rate. This calculator computes your gross weekly and annual pay, applies 1.5x federal overtime for hours beyond 40, and checks the Missouri tipped-wage credit so tipped workers can see whether their tips clear the full minimum.
How it works
Hours split into regular and overtime, each paid at its own rate:
regularHours = min(hours, 40)
otHours = max(hours - 40, 0)
regularPay = wage * regularHours
overtimePay = wage * 1.5 * otHours
weeklyGross = regularPay + overtimePay
annualGross = weeklyGross * 52
For tipped workers, Missouri allows a cash wage of 50% of the minimum (about $6.00/hr) as long as tips bring the effective rate to at least $12.00/hr. The tool compares cash wage plus per-hour tips against that floor and flags any shortfall the employer must cover.
Notes and example
At the $12.00 minimum working 45 hours: 40 regular hours pay $480, and 5 overtime hours at $18.00 add $90, for a $570 gross week and roughly $29,640 annualized. A tipped worker paid $6.00/hr cash needs at least $6.00/hr in tips to reach the $12.00 floor; below that, the employer owes the gap. All figures are gross, before taxes and deductions. Everything runs locally; nothing is uploaded.
