Korean Date in Words

Spell out dates in full Korean (년월일) word form

Free Korean date speller — render any calendar date as Korean prose such as 이천이십사년 유월 사일, using the Sino-Korean ordinal numbers with the proper 년 / 월 / 일 markers, all in your browser.

What order does a Korean date use?

Korean dates run from largest to smallest: year, then month, then day — 년 월 일. So 4 June 2024 is written 이천이십사년 유월 사일, reading literally 2024-year 6-month 4-day.

Korean dates are spoken and written from the largest unit down, using the Sino-Korean number system and the markers 년 (year), 월 (month), and 일 (day). This free tool turns any date into its full Korean prose form — for example 4 June 2024 becomes 이천이십사년 유월 사일.

How it works

The tool reads the date as three Sino-Korean numbers. The year is spelled as a full cardinal using the place words 천 (1000), 백 (100), and 십 (10) — so 2024 is 이천이십사 — followed by 년. The day is the plain Sino-Korean number for 1–31 followed by 일.

The month is the Sino-Korean number 1–12 followed by 월, with two euphonic exceptions baked into the table: June is 유월 (not 육월) and October is 시월 (not 십월). All other months are regular, such as 삼월 (March) and 십이월 (December).

Tips and notes

Always use Sino-Korean numbers for dates — using native numbers (하나, 둘) here is a common beginner error. Watch the two irregular months, 유월 and 시월, which are the only forms that deviate from the plain number. Days of the week (요일) are separate words and are not part of the 년월일 date itself. The full pattern is year + 년, month + 월, day + 일, optionally with the day-of-week appended. Everything runs locally in your browser.
