Las Vegas adds a combined 8.375% sales tax to most retail purchases — the Nevada state rate plus Clark County’s local add-ons. This calculator applies that rate to any amount and respects Nevada’s exemptions for unprepared groceries and prescription drugs so the total matches your receipt.

How it works

For taxable goods the math is a single percentage of the pre-tax price; exempt categories are taxed at zero:

rate    = 8.375%   (taxable)  |  0%  (groceries, prescriptions)
tax     = amount × rate
total   = amount + tax

The 8.375% combined rate is the sum of Nevada’s statewide base and Clark County’s local option taxes. Unprepared groceries and prescription medicines are statutory exemptions, so the tool zeroes the rate for those categories.

Example and tips

A $250 taxable purchase incurs about $20.94 in tax for a $270.94 total. The same $250 spent on unprepared groceries is taxed at $0. Watch the prepared-food distinction: a packaged loaf of bread is exempt, but a deli sandwich made to order is taxable. Hotel room tax and the live entertainment tax are separate levies and are not part of this 8.375% retail sales tax.
