This calculator works out gross weekly pay at Louisville’s applicable minimum wage. Kentucky sets the state minimum at $7.25 per hour — the same as the federal floor — and Louisville cannot set a higher local rate. The tool also applies federal overtime rules and the tipped-worker cash wage.

How it works

Regular pay covers up to 40 hours; hours beyond 40 in the workweek are overtime at 1.5 times the regular rate:

regular pay = min(hours, 40) × rate
overtime pay = max(hours − 40, 0) × rate × 1.5
gross pay = regular pay + overtime pay

For tipped workers, Kentucky permits a $2.13 cash wage plus a tip credit of up to $5.12. The cash wage plus tips must reach at least $7.25/hr; if not, the employer owes the shortfall.

Example and notes

At $7.25/hr working 45 hours: regular pay is 40 × $7.25 = $290, overtime is 5 × $10.875 = $54.38, for $344.38 gross. These are gross figures before federal, Kentucky state, and Louisville occupational taxes. Overtime is measured per workweek, not per day, and salaried exempt employees are not entitled to overtime under the standard rules.
