Know your real Milwaukee hotel bill

The room rate you see online is rarely what you pay. Milwaukee layers Wisconsin sales tax, county and city room taxes, and tourism assessments on top of the nightly price, pushing the combined occupancy tax to roughly 17.5%. This tool reveals the all-in total before you book.

How it works

The calculator multiplies your nightly rate by the number of nights to get a room subtotal, applies the combined occupancy tax percentage, and adds any mandatory nightly fees:

room subtotal = nightly rate * nights
tax amount = room subtotal * (occupancy tax rate / 100)
fees total = nightly fee * nights
grand total = room subtotal + tax amount + fees total

Occupancy tax bundles every layer — state sales tax plus county, city, and tourism room taxes — into one rate. Resort or destination fees are not a tax, so they are added separately to reflect your true checkout amount.

Tips and example

A 150 nightly rate for 3 nights gives a room subtotal of 450. At 17.5% the tax is 78.75, so the grand total before fees is 528.75. Add a 20 nightly fee and the out-the-door total reaches 588.75.

Always confirm the exact tax rate at booking — stadium-district and tourism assessments can nudge the effective rate up or down slightly by property.
