The civilisations between the Tigris and Euphrates gave us humanity’s oldest written myths, from the Epic of Gilgamesh to the Babylonian creation story. This generator draws on genuine Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian names so your ancient-world fiction, historical RPGs, and bronze-age settings ring true.
How it works
The tool keeps three curated lists pulled from the historical and mythological record: deities (Anu, Enlil, Inanna, Marduk), kings and heroes (Gilgamesh, Hammurabi, Sargon), and places (Uruk, Babylon, Nineveh, plus mythic spots like Dilmun and Kur). Generating samples your chosen number of entries without replacement, so each name in a single draw is distinct, with a one-line note on each.
Tips and notes
Mesopotamian gods frequently carry parallel Sumerian and Akkadian names — Inanna is Ishtar, Enki is Ea, Utu is Shamash — so you can pick the form that fits the era your story sits in. The hero list deliberately blends legend and history: lean on Gilgamesh and Etana for myth, or Hammurabi and Ashurbanipal for grounded political drama. Pair real cities with mythic locales like Dilmun to give your world both a map and an afterlife.
