This calculator compares the real monthly cost of commuting in Nashville by car versus by WeGo transit. Driving cost is built from your distance, local gas price, fuel economy, parking, and optionally the full IRS per-mile rate.

How it works

The tool totals monthly driving miles, then costs them either by fuel only or by the all-in IRS rate, and adds parking:

monthly miles = one-way miles × 2 × commuting days
fuel cost = (monthly miles / mpg) × gas price
perMile cost = monthly miles × IRS rate per mile
drive total = (fuel or perMile) + monthly parking
transit total = WeGo pass price

The IRS standard mileage rate (about 0.67 per mile) captures fuel, maintenance, insurance, and depreciation, so per-mile mode reflects true cost of ownership rather than just gas out of pocket.

Example and notes

A 12-mile one-way commute on 20 days is 480 miles a month. At 28 mpg and 3.10 a gallon, fuel alone is about 53 dollars; add 100 for parking and driving runs near 153 dollars. A 65 dollar WeGo pass is far cheaper in cash. Switch to per-mile mode and the same 480 miles cost about 322 dollars all-in, widening the gap. Remember this compares money only — transit may add travel time you should value separately.
