This calculator works out weekly gross pay for hourly workers in Nashville. It defaults to Tennessee’s effective minimum wage — the federal $7.25 per hour — and applies federal overtime rules for any hours over 40 in a week.
How it works
The tool separates the week into regular and overtime hours and pays overtime at one and a half times the base rate:
regular hours = min(hours, 40)
overtime hours = max(hours − 40, 0)
gross pay = regular × rate + overtime × rate × 1.5
For tipped workers, the employer may pay a $2.13 cash wage and claim a tip credit. The law still guarantees the full minimum, so the tool checks the floor:
effective hourly = cash wage + (tips / hours)
must be at least $7.25; if short, employer tops it up
Example and notes
A worker logging 45 hours at $7.25 earns 40 regular hours of pay plus 5 overtime hours at $10.875, for a weekly gross of about $344.38. In tipped mode, a server paid $2.13 cash who earns enough tips to clear $7.25 per hour keeps the higher total; if tips fall short, the employer must make up the gap. Tennessee follows the federal floor and bars local wage ordinances, so these figures apply across Nashville.
