New Orleans does not set its own minimum wage, so workers in the city are covered by the federal floor of $7.25 per hour. This free calculator computes your weekly gross pay, applies federal overtime rules for hours beyond 40, and checks tipped-worker pay against the required minimum so you can verify your paycheck is correct.
How it works
Hours up to 40 are paid at your regular rate; hours beyond 40 earn 1.5x under the FLSA:
regular_pay = min(hours, 40) * rate
overtime_pay = max(hours - 40, 0) * rate * 1.5
gross = regular_pay + overtime_pay
For tipped workers, the federal tipped cash wage is $2.13/hr, but cash wage plus tips must reach $7.25. If rate + tips falls below $7.25, the tool reports the per-week shortfall the employer must cover.
Notes and example
A worker earning $7.25/hr for 45 hours gets 40 hours of regular pay ($290) plus 5 overtime hours at $10.88 ($54.38), for $344.38 gross. A tipped server at $2.13/hr who averages $6/hr in tips reaches $8.13/hr — above the minimum, so no shortfall is owed. All figures are gross pay before taxes; Louisiana state income tax and payroll deductions are not included. Everything runs in your browser.
