This tool estimates how long a piece of Norwegian text takes to read, defaulting to 226 words per minute — the typical average silent-reading rate for Norwegian. It is handy for sizing blog posts, scripts, speeches and study material.
How it works
Reading time is a simple ratio of length to speed:
seconds = (word count / words per minute) × 60
The tool counts words by splitting the text on whitespace and dropping empty entries, then applies your chosen rate. The result is shown as minutes and seconds, with the raw word and character counts beside it. The default rate of 226 WPM reflects average adult silent reading; you can override it for slower or faster audiences.
Tips
- Use a lower rate (around 150–200 WPM) for dense, technical or legal Norwegian text.
- For a spoken presentation, speaking pace is slower than reading — try 130–160 WPM.
- Reading-time labels like “5 min lesetid” set reader expectations and can improve engagement on articles.
