New York City parking cost estimator
Parking is one of New York City’s biggest hidden costs. This tool estimates your daily, monthly and annual parking spend using local garage rates (~$400/mo in Manhattan) and hourly street rates, then adds the 18.375% NYC parking tax so you see the true number — not just the sign price.
How it works
Pick monthly or hourly parking. For a monthly garage spot the cost is flat; for pay-as-you-go it scales with hours and days. Either way the NYC parking tax is applied on top:
pre_tax = monthly_rate (monthly)
OR hourly_rate * hours_per_day * days_per_month (hourly)
tax = pre_tax * 18.375% (10.375% with Manhattan resident exemption)
total_mo = pre_tax + tax
annual = total_mo * 12
The default neighborhood rates reflect typical NYC pricing; Midtown and Lower Manhattan are highest, the outer boroughs lowest.
Example and notes
A $400/mo Manhattan garage spot: the 18.375% parking tax adds $73.50, for $473.50 a month or about $5,682 a year. Paying hourly at $25 for 8 hours, 22 days a month, is $4,400 pre-tax — far more — so a monthly spot wins for daily drivers. Manhattan residents may qualify for the reduced 10.375% rate on one vehicle. Estimates only.
