How does the Destiny Knot change inheritance?

Without a Destiny Knot three of the six IVs pass down from the parents at random. With one, five of the six pass down, so the inheritance probability for any given stat rises from one half to five sixths, sharply improving your odds.

How is each stat's chance of a 31 computed?

If both parents have a 31 in that stat, the child almost certainly inherits or randomly rolls one. If only one parent has it, the odds are about half the inheritance chance. If neither does, the only path is a random one-in-32 roll.

How is the overall probability found?

Because each stat is inherited independently, the chance of getting every target stat perfect is the product of the individual per-stat probabilities. That is why each extra target stat sharply lowers the combined odds.

What does expected eggs mean?

Expected eggs is one divided by the overall probability, the average number of hatches to get a fully perfect offspring. A one percent combined chance averages around a hundred eggs, though variance means any single run differs.

How it works

Inheritance passes down a set number of IVs from the two parents at random — three of six normally, five of six with a Destiny Knot. Per target stat the chance of a perfect 31 depends on how many parents already have one:

pInherit       = 5/6 with knot, else 3/6
both parents 31: pInherit + (1 - pInherit) * (1/32)
one parent 31:   pInherit * 0.5 + (1 - pInherit) * (1/32)
neither:         1/32

Because stats are inherited independently, the overall chance of a fully perfect offspring is the product of the per-stat probabilities, and expected eggs is one divided by that combined chance.

Why each extra stat hurts

Multiplying probabilities means every additional target stat compounds the difficulty. Two targets might be manageable, but four or five perfect IVs on one offspring can demand hundreds of eggs unless your parents already share those 31s.
