Path of Exile Breeding & IV Calculator

Calculate the best IVs and breeding outcomes in Path of Exile.

Enter which perfect IVs each Path of Exile parent has and the target stats you want, with or without a Destiny Knot, to get per-stat odds, overall offspring probability, and expected breeding attempts.

How does the Destiny Knot change inheritance?

Without a Destiny Knot three of the six IVs pass down from the parents at random. With one, five of the six pass down, so the inheritance probability for any given stat rises from one half to five sixths, sharply improving your odds.

Breeding a perfect-IV companion in Path of Exile can mean dozens or hundreds of eggs, and the odds swing wildly with parent quality and whether a Destiny Knot is held. This calculator computes the real inheritance probabilities so you know how realistic a target is before you start hatching.

How it works

Inheritance passes down a set number of IVs from the two parents at random — three of six normally, five of six with a Destiny Knot. Per target stat the chance of a perfect 31 depends on how many parents already have one:

pInherit       = 5/6 with knot, else 3/6
both parents 31: pInherit + (1 - pInherit) * (1/32)
one parent 31:   pInherit * 0.5 + (1 - pInherit) * (1/32)
neither:         1/32

Because stats are inherited independently, the overall chance of a fully perfect offspring is the product of the per-stat probabilities, and expected eggs is one divided by that combined chance.

Why each extra stat hurts

Multiplying probabilities means every additional target stat compounds the difficulty. Two targets might be manageable, but four or five perfect IVs on one offspring can demand hundreds of eggs unless your parents already share those 31s.

Tips

Hold a Destiny Knot every pairing, build up shared 31 IVs across generations, and add one new perfect stat at a time. Carrying more matching perfect IVs into each breeding step steadily raises your inheritance odds and shrinks the grind.
