Estimating what parking really costs in Philadelphia

Parking prices in Philadelphia swing widely between Center City garages and outer neighborhood lots, and the math of pay-as-you-go versus a monthly contract is not obvious. This estimator uses representative median rates for major districts, then compares your daily hourly spend against a flat monthly garage contract so you can pick the cheaper path for how you actually park.

How it works

Daily cost is your hourly rate times the hours you park, times the days per month. An optional event multiplier inflates daily rates for high-demand days. The monthly option is a flat contract regardless of usage.

daily_total   = hourlyRate * hoursPerDay * daysPerMonth * eventMult
monthly_total = monthlyRate
cheaper       = min(daily_total, monthly_total)

The tool reports both totals plus an annualized figure so you can budget for the year.

Example and notes

In Center City at $6 per hour, parking four hours a day for 20 days is 6 * 4 * 20 = $480 pay-as-you-go, far above the roughly $165 monthly contract, so the contract wins easily. In an outer neighborhood with low hourly rates and only a few days of parking, the daily option may be cheaper. Event days near the stadiums often switch to flat premium pricing, so use the event toggle when that applies. Remember the city parking tax is usually baked into posted rates, and tickets are never part of an estimate.
