Pittsburgh wages follow Pennsylvania’s statewide floor of $7.25 an hour, the same as the federal minimum. If you work more than 40 hours in a week, those extra hours must be paid at time-and-a-half. This calculator splits your hours into regular and overtime, applies the correct rates, and handles the tipped-worker rules.
How it works
For a standard hourly worker, weekly gross pay is:
regular_hours = min(hours, 40)
overtime_hours = max(hours - 40, 0)
regular_pay = regular_hours * rate
overtime_pay = overtime_hours * rate * 1.5
gross = regular_pay + overtime_pay
At the $7.25 minimum, overtime is $7.25 × 1.5 = $10.88 per hour.
For tipped workers, Pennsylvania allows a cash wage as low as $2.83/hr, but the employer must ensure cash wage plus tips reaches at least $7.25/hr. The tool flags this case so you can confirm the tip-credit top-up is satisfied.
Example
Standard worker at $7.25/hr working 45 hours:
regular = 40 * 7.25 = $290.00
overtime = 5 * 7.25 * 1.5 = $54.38
gross = $344.38
Notes
This tool computes a single workweek of straight pay before taxes and deductions. Multi-week averaging is not allowed for overtime under the law — each workweek stands alone. Tipped-wage compliance depends on actual tips earned, which the worker and employer must reconcile per pay period.
