Romanian dates are spoken with a cardinal number for the day, the month name,
and the year written out in full. The one exception is the first of the month,
which uses the special ordinal întâi. This tool turns any date into that
correct Romanian wording.
How it works
The day uses feminine cardinal forms because it agrees with the implied noun
zi, so 2 is două and 6 is șase. The 1st is replaced by întâi. The month
comes from the standard list (iunie for June). The year is built as a
masculine cardinal: hundreds such as două sute, the thousands group două mii, and the final tens-and-units joined with și, so 2026 becomes două mii douăzeci și șase.
Putting the pieces together, 04.06.2026 reads as patru iunie două mii douăzeci și șase, and 01.06.2026 reads as întâi iunie două mii douăzeci și șase.
Tips and example
Use the written form on formal letters, official documents, and cheques where a
spelled-out date prevents tampering. Remember the și connector: it appears
between tens and units (douăzeci și șase) and between hundreds and the final
group, but not everywhere, which the tool handles for you. When the day is the
1st, always write întâi rather than unu — this is the single most common
mistake when spelling Romanian dates by hand.
