Parking is one of the largest hidden costs of working or visiting San Jose, and rates swing widely by district and parking type. This estimator turns hourly, daily, and monthly rates into a clear monthly and annual figure so you can choose the cheapest option for your schedule.
How it works
The tool picks a base rate from a neighborhood table, then projects it across your usage:
street : daily = hourly rate × hours/day (capped at the daily max)
garage : daily = posted daily rate
monthly pass = flat neighborhood monthly rate
daily-based monthly = daily × days/month × event multiplier
annual = chosen monthly × 12
For metered street parking the tool caps the daily charge at the local daily maximum, since meters stop charging overnight and on Sundays in most San Jose zones.
Example and tips
Parking downtown 8 hours a day, 20 days a month, at a $3.50 hourly street meter (capped at $20/day) totals about $400 a month — far more than the roughly $175 monthly garage pass, which is the clear winner for regular commuters. Reserve street metering for occasional short trips, and only apply the event multiplier to the specific days you expect a game or concert nearby.
