The hardest part of writing is often the blank page. This generator combines a genre, a setting, a character archetype, and a core conflict into a single ready-to-write story seed, giving you somewhere to begin.
How it works
The tool keeps four independent lists and draws one entry from each:
prompt = genre framing + character + setting + conflict
Because the four choices are independent, the total number of possible prompts is the product of the list sizes — thousands of distinct combinations. Each click is a fresh, independent random draw. Lock the genre to focus the output, or leave it on Any for the widest variety.
Tips and notes
- Generate several in a row and keep the ones that spark something.
- Treat the prompt as a launch pad — invert the conflict or swap the setting if that makes it more interesting.
- A strong prompt usually pairs an active character with a conflict that threatens what they want; look for that tension when you choose one to write.
- Copy your favourite and paste it at the top of a fresh document to start.
