Make sure your video fits the format
Threads native video and the Instagram surfaces you reshare to each impose their own minimum and maximum durations. This checker takes one duration and tells you, at a glance, every format your clip qualifies for — and where it falls short — so you trim once instead of discovering a limit at upload time.
How it works
Enter minutes and seconds and the tool converts the input into total seconds. It then compares that total against the minimum and maximum for each format and marks each one with a tick or a cross, noting whether an excluded format rejects your clip for being too long or too short.
The limits it checks are:
- Threads feed video: up to 5 minutes
- Instagram Story share: up to 60 seconds per segment
- Instagram Reel share: up to 90 seconds
- Instagram Live: up to 4 hours
- Threads ad video: up to about 2 minutes
Why duration matters
Each surface trims, splits, or rejects video that falls outside its bounds. A 75-second clip plays fine in the feed but splits across two Story segments and is comfortably within Reel limits — knowing that before export saves a re-edit. Completion rate also drives reach, so matching your length to the format’s sweet spot, not just its ceiling, improves performance.
Tips
Aim short: 15–30 seconds maximises watch-through on every format. If you need length, structure the video so the first three seconds work as a standalone hook, because that is all most viewers see. When you plan to reshare to Stories, design in natural breaks every 60 seconds so the automatic split lands between thoughts rather than mid-sentence.
