What order does Vietnamese use for dates?

Vietnamese reads dates day first, then month, then year: ngày (day) tháng (month) năm (year). For example, 20 June 2026 is ngày hai mươi tháng sáu năm hai nghìn không trăm hai mươi sáu. The tool always uses this order.

Why is April written tháng tư instead of tháng bốn?

The fourth month is read tháng tư by convention, using the tư reading of four rather than bốn. The tool applies this exception for April while reading all other months as plain numbers.

How are the day numbers read?

Days follow the everyday spoken rules: 21 is hai mươi mốt, 24 is hai mươi tư, and 25 is hai mươi lăm. The tool reuses the same number engine as the Vietnamese number-to-words tool to get these right.

Does it check that the date is real?

Yes. It rejects impossible dates such as 31 February by verifying the day exists in that month and year. Only valid calendar dates produce a spelled-out result.

Is the date sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, so it is safe to use for private or sensitive dates.

How it works

A date is read as ngày <day> tháng <month> năm <year>. The day and year are converted with the real Vietnamese number rules, so a units digit of 1 after a tens digit becomes mốt, 4 becomes tư, and 5 becomes lăm. Months are read as plain numbers with one exception: the fourth month is tháng tư, not tháng bốn. The tool also validates that the date actually exists before rendering it.
