Virginia Beach pay at the $12.00 minimum
Virginia Beach uses Virginia’s statewide minimum wage of $12.00/hr. This tool computes your weekly gross pay, applies time-and-a-half overtime for hours over 40, and checks the tipped-worker rule so you can verify a paycheck quickly.
How it works
Pay splits into regular and overtime hours within a single workweek:
regular hours = min(hours, 40)
overtime hours = max(hours - 40, 0)
regular pay = regular hours * rate
overtime pay = overtime hours * rate * 1.5
gross pay = regular pay + overtime pay
For tipped workers, the employer may pay a lower cash wage but the cash wage plus hourly tips must reach the $12.00 minimum. When the combined figure falls short, the employer owes the shortfall on worked hours.
Tips and example
At 12.00/hr for 45 hours, regular pay is 40 * 12.00 = 480 and overtime is 5 * 12.00 * 1.5 = 90, for a gross of 570. If a tipped worker earns 9.00 cash plus 4.00 tips, that totals 13.00/hr, which clears the 12.00 minimum so no make-up pay is owed.
