This Virginia paycheck calculator estimates your real take-home pay after federal tax, Virginia’s graduated income tax, and FICA. Enter your gross pay and frequency to see net pay per paycheck and per year — useful for budgeting, comparing offers, or checking a new withholding setup.
How it works
The calculation runs in these steps:
- Annualize your gross pay by frequency and subtract any pre-tax
401(k)contribution. - Federal income tax: apply 2025 brackets after the federal standard deduction.
- Virginia income tax: apply the
2% / 3% / 5% / 5.75%brackets after Virginia’s standard deduction. - FICA:
6.2%Social Security (up to the wage base) plus1.45%Medicare on gross. - Net pay is gross minus all taxes and pre-tax deductions, divided back to your pay period.
Example
A single Virginia worker earning $60,000 a year, paid biweekly with no 401(k), pays roughly $5,400 federal, $2,900 Virginia tax, and $4,590 FICA — taking home about $47,100 a year, or $1,810 per biweekly paycheck.
Notes
This is an estimate. It excludes health premiums, HSA/FSA, garnishments, and credits, and assumes the standard deduction. Virginia has no local income tax. Use it to plan, not as official payroll output.
