The Arizona Gas Tax Calculator shows how much fuel tax you pay in Arizona, per fill-up or per year. Arizona charges an 18-cent state gasoline excise plus a 1-cent underground-storage-tank (UST) fee, and the federal excise adds 18.4 cents — about 37.4 cents per gallon total. Enter a tank size or your annual mileage and MPG.
How it works
The combined per-gallon rate is the sum of the three components:
az state excise = $0.18 / gal
az UST fee = $0.01 / gal
federal excise = $0.184 / gal
combined = $0.374 / gal
per fill-up: gallons x combined
per year: gallons = annual miles / MPG
tax = gallons x combined
For the annual mode the tool converts miles and MPG into gallons burned, then multiplies by the combined rate. Each tax component is shown separately so you can see the state and federal split.
Example and notes
A 15-gallon fill-up:
state excise: 15 x 0.18 = $2.70
UST fee: 15 x 0.01 = $0.15
federal: 15 x 0.184 = $2.76
combined: 15 x 0.374 = $5.61
Annual: 12,000 miles at 25 MPG = 480 gallons; 480 x 0.374 = $179.52 per year.
- Arizona’s base 18-cent rate is low compared with most states.
- Diesel for heavy vehicles is taxed at a higher rate — this tool is for gasoline.
- Pump prices already include these taxes; this shows the tax portion. Runs in your browser.
