Every Instagram surface has its own minimum and maximum video length, and a clip that is perfect for a reel may be too long for a story segment or too short to matter. This checker takes one duration and tells you exactly which Instagram formats it qualifies for.
How it works
Instagram enforces per-format duration ranges measured in seconds:
- Reel: up to 90 seconds
- Story segment: up to 60 seconds (longer uploads auto-split)
- Feed video: up to 3,600 seconds (60 minutes) from web
- Live: up to 14,400 seconds (4 hours)
The tool converts your minutes and seconds to a total second count and compares
it against each format’s [min, max] range. A format is marked as a fit when
your duration falls inside its window, and as too short or too long otherwise.
Tips and example
A 45-second clip fits reels and a single story segment and is a strong feed video length. A 3-minute clip is too long for one story segment (it will split into three) and is no longer eligible as a reel, but it is fine as a feed video. When in doubt, design for reels — the 90-second cap is the tightest meaningful limit, and a reel-ready clip plays cleanly everywhere else.
