Board Game Name Generator

Unique names for tabletop game designs

A board game title has to telegraph genre and tone in a glance on a crowded shelf, so it pays to test many options early. This tool draws on the vocabulary that fills published tabletop catalogues and assembles genre-matched titles you can shortlist in seconds.

How it works

Each generated title is built from genre-specific word pools so the tone matches the play experience. The generator picks a genre, then chooses words only from that genre’s lists. About 40 percent of the time it produces an adjective-plus-noun title such as Iron Dominion, around 35 percent it produces a noun-plus-place title such as Harvest Valley, and the rest are single evocative words. Strategy pulls from empire and dynasty vocabulary, party from chaos and mischief, cooperative from survival and rescue, deck-builders from engine and arsenal language, and worker placement from harvest and guild words. Results are de-duplicated within each batch.

Tips and notes

  • The clearest titles match the box art and weight class; a heavy strategy game named like a party game confuses buyers.
  • Single-word titles are punchy and easy to search for, but harder to trademark, so check availability before you commit.
  • Always search BoardGameGeek and a trademark register before settling — a generated title is only a starting point for a real publication.
