Fictional Religion Name Generator

Names for invented faiths in fiction and games

Building a believable fictional world means inventing its faiths — and a good religion needs a deity, a name, a holy book, and a word for its followers that all sound like they belong together. This generator produces that whole set in one click.

How it works

The deity name is assembled from three syllable pools: a strong opening syllable, a flowing middle, and an optional ending vowel cluster, so the result is always pronounceable. The faith name uses common religious forms — Order of, Cult of, The ... Faith — combined with either the deity name or an abstract concept like Light, Ash, or the Deep. The sacred text borrows a scripture-style noun such as Codex or Litany, and the follower term either names adherents after the deity (Children of ...) or adds a real-language suffix like -ist or -ite.

Tips and notes

  • Reroll until the deity name and the faith name feel like they share a tongue; mixing harsh and soft syllables can read as two cultures.
  • A faith built around an abstract concept (the Veil, Silence) suits mystery cults, while a deity-named faith suits established state religions.
  • Keep a list of generated sets so recurring follower terms and texts stay consistent across chapters or campaign sessions.
