Crafting in RuneScape 3 only profits when the finished item sells for more than its materials cost, and that margin is easy to misjudge across multi-ingredient recipes. This calculator sums every material line, finds your true cost per finished item, and tells you whether the craft makes or loses money.
How it works
Each material contributes its quantity times its unit price, the lines are summed, and the total is divided across the finished items:
lineCost = quantity × pricePerUnit
totalCost = Σ lineCost over all materials
costPerItem= totalCost / outputCount
profitItem = sellPrice − costPerItem
profitCraft= profitItem × outputCount
A positive profitItem means money-making, a negative one means you are paying
gp for experience — both are valid strategies depending on your goal.
Example and tips
If a recipe needs 3 units at 200 gp and 1 unit at 1,500 gp, total material cost is 2,100 gp. If it yields 1 item that sells for 2,400 gp, profit is 300 gp per craft. When prices move fast, re-check the Grand Exchange before committing to a large batch — a recipe that profits at one snapshot can flip to a loss when an ingredient spikes.
